Pocket size mini quadcopters are completely the rage now a days. Sure all the big and noteworthy quadcopters like the DJI Phantom and AR Parrot get all the hype and media attention when it comes to the best quadcopter on the market, but really it’s the mini quadcopter that brings that gets the every day hobbyist pumped up. Why?
These little buggers are perfect because:
1) They’re inexpensive.
For an all in one, ready to fly quadcopter out of the box, it’ll cost less than a DJI Phantom battery. And for those who don’t know how much a DJI battery costs, it’s less than a Benjamin.
2) They’re freakin’ robust.
These quadcopters can take a licking and still keep ticking. You can fly them into walls and bash, well not bash them, but you can crash them and it’s all good. You can brush it off and it’ll be as good as new and ready to fly again.
3) They’re small!
These mini quadcopters will fit in the palm of your hand. Unless your hands are smaller than those of an infant, the battery, the processor, the frame, the blades, and in some cases, the controller will fit in your hand.
In all seriousness, these mini quadcopters are incredibly tiny. Any tinier, you’ll need to check out the nano quadcopters.
Most likely these mini quadcopters will measure no greater than 2.5 x 2.5 inches in width and length, but I tell you, these quadcopters are tiny in size but BIG in fun. Most of these mini quadcopters have a 240-360mAh LiPo battery that’s included. So what does that mean? Roughly 5-7 minutes of air time with 30 minutes of charge time.
The fun part of flying these mini quadcopters is that you’ll perfect turning cycles, bankings, and figure eights like nobody’s business. Another reason why these quadcopters are so awesome is because with a flick of a button on the controller, you’re able to make the quadcopter do flips, somersaults, and rolls. After seeing that, you might even do flips yourself!
The quadcopter flight is extremely stable and easy to control. The caveat of that is that you need to be flying indoors. Although you can fly out doors, it makes it tough because even the slightest wind will knock the mini quadcopter off balance.
